I really liked the Hanson one of Barbara Ann, and would’ve preferred to hear them do Surfer Girl (watch their performance of Bee Gees Too Much Heaven in Australia on Youtube). Ignoring the tracks I’d never heard before, the two Beck performances were off – was he a 1/4-1/2 beat ahead of the music all the way through Sloop John B? The Brandi Carlisle one sounded like an imitation of KD Lang and somehow didn’t work that well… And it would’ve been so much better if God Only Knows had included a bunch of singers… They did ok, better than some of the singers for sure, but maybe someone like him could have reined in or re-aligned some of it. Half expected to see someone like Ricky Minor leading the orchestra. I was excited to watch this, and ended up wishing it had been better.
